Quit smoking programs
If quitting an addiction was easy, then smoking would have been the easiest. But unfortunately this is not the case. Smoking is one of the worst types of addictions anyone can have. Quitting the smoking habit needs the combined effort of two main parties; the smoker as well as the people surrounding him or her. Once a person is addicted to the nicotine based product, it can be a very tiresome job mainly because it requires time and a lot of patience.
There are so many quit smoking programs that any smoker can start on, if they are really willing to quit their unhealthy habit. But it is also noteworthy to have a closer look at all the different types of programs that are offered before choosing one. Giving up an addiction means that the person will have to cope up with various psychological and physical problems. Therefore, having a proper understanding of it is always better.
Counselling is supposed to be one of the best quit smoking programs that many psychiatrists prescribe for people who want to quit smoking. Today, many institutions conduct their counselling sessions free of charge to the person who is willing to quit smoking. Some anti-smoking institutions carry out these counselling sessions individually as well as group classes. Next in line is therapy.
Therapy is quite different from counselling. It requires the smoker to undergo a medical check up as this will help the doctor identify the individual’s health conditions and how they would respond to quit smoking programs.
Counselling usually requires around four to seven sessions. The duration of the total number of sessions can differ and the doctor would most probably modify the quit smoking programs according to the individual or group that’s involved. Apart from hypnotists, some of these quit smoking programs are conducted by individuals who have experienced similar experiences.
As discussed earlier, the use of therapy can be stated as another type of quit smoking program. One major therapy that a lot of doctors use is the ‘stop smoking laser therapy’. This type of therapy uses laser technology. The laser is usually sent to a few acupuncture points in the body which include the hands, arms, sides of the nose and wrists. When the laser treatment is done, the body releases the hormone endorphin. As an outcome, the body will feel calm and relaxed and will block the smoke receptors of the smoker resulting in the person not having any cravings towards smoking. The successful conclusion of these type of therapy results in the desire for nicotine and smoking being completely suppressed. This therapy needs to be done by qualified specialists who have years of experience conducting similar type of therapies on their patients.
If a person who is willing to quit his smoking habit lives with people who share his habit, quitting can be more difficult. This is why it’s necessary to first inform them about you giving up your addiction, before starting on quit smoking programs. The start can be very simple. Just ask your friends and family to support you by throwing away smoking items such as lighters, ash trays and cigarette packs that would most probably be lying around the house, your work place, etc.
